Etoys allows children to create rather than just consume and that can have a huge impact in their perception of their role in the world.

It brings to life, and help put hands on, the best ideas about learning, teaching, innovating education through computing. The best approach for figuring out how things should work when kids and computer collide, a kind of cognitive swiss knife for conteporary students from 5 to 99!

I use Squeak Etoys since 2006 to study and teach children and school teachers.
Etoys is simple, powerfull and terrific despite being virtually unknown.

most computer applications for children strike me as pedogogically inept. etoys is exceptional in providing an exciting and natural introduction to modern programming concepts suitable for pre-teenagers.

In the lab setting, I can give children freedom to draw concepts we have learned in science, math or literacy. They expound on the concept by animating their work. In the classroom, they explore EToys and work on independent projects.
