What is Etoys?

Etoys is a media-rich authoring environment that encourages deep learning through experimentation.

Children use Etoys to make their own models, stories, and games, which keeps them engaged because it's a lot of fun. But Etoys isn't just child's play. Etoys makes abstractions more palpable, allowing children to visualize and explore new ideas.

Squeakfest USA

The 7th Annual Squeakfest will be held at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. The theme for this year's conference will be "Etoys in the STEM classroom." As we are in the place where the NSF project Using Squeak to Infuse Technology (USeIT) is reaching it's 3rd year, we will see and learn a lot about their experiences.

Keynote Speakers: Idit Caperton, Julian Lombardi, Walter Bender

We're very pleased to have Idit Harel Caperton founder of MaMaMedia and World Wide Workshop Foundation, Walter Bender from Sugar Labs and Julian Lombardi from Duke university as our keynote speakers.

Student/Teacher Workshops

On Day 1 on July 26, Squeakfest will start with a teacher workshop. On the next two days, there are sessions planned to showcase Etoys in the K-12 STEM classroom.

During Squeakfest, there will be a half-day Squeak Camp for middle school kids. The camp is independent of Squeakfest, but Squeakfest attendees will be welcome to drop in and interact with the campers.

Group Discussion

Aside from the workshops and presentations, the real magic of Etoys happens face to face. Whether talking at dinner or brainstorming in a group, it's the Etoys community that shines brightest. Nowhere is this more apparent than each year at Squeakfest.
